Liv Taylor flew his own plane in for this concert. He showed up with his acoustic guitar, his banjo, and a couple of Countryman direct boxes. Setup was simple; one direct box for guitar, the other for banjo. He also played the IMAC Baldwin acoustic piano for several numbers.

Sound check was relatively brief and went just fine. Adjusting the sound in the house went smoothly, and the monitors were equally easy. I was a little disappointed that sound check only lasted about 10 minutes.

Review

This was the third (or fourth, I forget which) time that I have done sound for Livingston Taylor. Each time, it has been a memorable experience for me. Livingston is one of the few performers that I have actually wanted to work with since I began doing sound engineering some 30 years ago.

He's the kind of artist that can (and does) make the whole audience happy to be there. He did a variety of songs, some original, some borrowed. I don't think it's an act when he seems to be enjoying himself on stage, and it's very infectious. The audience was laughing quite often at his obvious humor and cute stories. He also got to everyone with his more touching songs.

He did some of his older classics, as well as a couple of more recent songs, but all were absolutely great! He has a presence and personality on stage which causes everyone to immediately like him, and what he's doing. His clear, lyrical voice is a pleasure to listen to, and his guitar and piano playing is flawless.

He did two sets of about 45 minutes each, a 20 minute intermission in between, and sold t-shirts and CD's in the lobby, which he graciously signed after the show.

Some people brought their children, some came alone, but everyone enjoyed the evening with Livingston. The one criticism I have of this excellent performer is also true of many other performers: You must see him live to really appreciate him. His albums do not necessarily do him justice - he's more than just the music.
